What to expect at Break Through
Our two buildings have a safe and welcoming atmosphere, where young people, staff, parents/carers/guardians and our agency partners can all feel at home. We work hard to create a calm and orderly learning environment – keeping class sizes small (current maximum 7) and supporting our staff to attentively manage young people and their learning.
Attendance is compulsory at Break Through, and we do all we can to make being in the school a rewarding experience. Our relationships with parents, carers and guardians are open and mutually supportive – we give regular updates, usually weekly.
Young people can enjoy a range of subjects and experiences at Break Through – from GCSEs and functional skills such as maths, English and science to art, PE and ICT and life skills such as cookery. Teaching is tailored to the different levels and needs of students, and takes a variety of shapes: group work, one-to-one lessons, role play, project work, research, off-site and experiential learning. We use our own facilities such as the kitchen and garden, as well as local parks, the nearby sports centre and library.
