Celebrating Equity, Diversity and Inclusion in Our School Community

As the new school year begins, Break Through School in Belvedere, Kent, is proud to reflect on the meaningful ways its learners and staff continue to embrace equity, diversity, and inclusion in all aspects of school life.

The term began with a series of inspiring events designed to promote kindness, awareness, and understanding. Kindness Week encouraged everyone to show compassion and respect for others, while Jeans for Genes Day raised awareness and funds to support children living with genetic disorders.

The school also celebrated the European Day of Languages, showcasing the rich variety of languages spoken across the community and recognising the cultural diversity that makes Break Through School such a unique and welcoming place.

Looking ahead to October, the school will continue this important work through a series of Core Skills lessons that highlight awareness, inclusion, and equality. Learners will explore the achievements and contributions of Black individuals throughout history during Black History Month, and take time to reflect on mental health and wellbeing for World Mental Health Day, encouraging open conversations and peer support.

In addition, learning activities will connect with a range of global and cultural awareness days — including National Vegetarian Day, World Smile Day, Cerebral Palsy Awareness Day, World Food Day, Diwali, and United Nations Day. These events provide opportunities to explore different perspectives, traditions, and values, helping to foster empathy, curiosity, and respect.

“Equity, diversity and inclusion are at the heart of everything we do,” said Ruth Elliott, Principal of Break Through School. “By celebrating the diversity within our community and learning from one another, we create a school culture where everyone feels valued, respected, and inspired to be themselves.”

Through these celebrations and learning experiences, Break Through School continues to strengthen its commitment to building an inclusive environment — one where diversity is celebrated, equity is championed, and every learner belongs.
