Break Through School is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people and expects all staff and volunteers to share this commitment. We ensure that consistent effective safeguarding procedures are in place to support families, children and staff at school.
We understand that Safeguarding is a wide and holistic set of values, principles and practices to ensure young people’s safety and welfare. We take this responsibility extremely seriously and it is woven into the fabric of all aspects of our daily and strategic practice. We understand that child protection is an element of safeguarding where we must observe, speak out and act when we are concerned or have any evidence that a child may be being harmed or be at risk of harm either physically or emotionally or mental.
Break Through School has policies and procedures in place to deal effectively with child protection and safeguarding issues together with recording and monitoring processes.
We work closely with both Bexley and Greenwich Safeguarding Children’s Board, following all statutory advice. Our school adheres to “Keeping Children Safe in Education” and Guidance for Safer Working Practice for Adults who work with Children and Young People in Education Settings. Every member of staff at our school holds a current Safeguarding Child Protection Training Certificate, which is renewed every three years. Staff are trained in recognising signs of abuse and know the procedure to follow if they have concerns about a child.
We operate a continuous cycle of additional training in areas including, PREVENT, British Values, Child Sexual Exploitation and Online Safety.
We are committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and expect all staff to share this commitment. All adults working in school are required to complete a DBS (Disclosure and Barring Service) Enhanced Check.
CEOP helps any child or young person under the age of 18 who is being pressured, forced or tricked into taking part in sexual activity of any kind. This can be something that has taken place either online or in ‘the real world’, or both.
