Learner-Led Enrichment at Break Through School Inspires Creativity and Confidence

Learners at Break Through School have been thriving as part of the school’s enrichment programme, which launched in September and sees learners rotating through a range of engaging, interest-led activities.

One of the standout successes has been the Strive Year 11 group, who have embraced the Sustainability enrichment sessions with growing enthusiasm and creativity. From the outset, learners were actively involved in shaping the focus of the sessions, ensuring activities reflected their interests and preferred ways of learning.

Creative and hands-on approaches have played a key role, with learners exploring themes through clay modelling, canvas art and practical projects of their own choosing. Music helped create a relaxed and motivating atmosphere, while longer sessions were supported with thoughtful touches such as food treats to help learners stay focused and engaged.

A highlight of the enrichment programme was an educational visit to London’s Sky Garden. For many learners, this was their first visit to the iconic landmark, and the experience provided fresh inspiration as well as a unique perspective on the capital. The trip helped build confidence, curiosity and enthusiasm, which learners brought back into their work at school.

Since taking part, learners have shown increased independence, creativity and pride in their achievements. Enrichment sessions have become purposeful and positive spaces, with learners keen to share their work with the Principal and have photos shared with their families. Many learners have even chosen to stay beyond the end of sessions to complete their projects, fully immersed in their learning.

Principal Ruth Elliott praised the impact of the programme, saying:

“It has been fantastic to see learners at Break Through School grow in confidence and creativity through our enrichment sessions. Giving learners a real voice and the opportunity to learn in ways that suit them has made a genuine difference, and the pride they take in their work speaks for itself.”

Break Through School plans to build on this success by embedding this learner-led approach consistently across all enrichment sessions, ensuring enriching, meaningful and enjoyable experiences for all learners.
