Our School
Break Through School is an independent alternative provision located in Belvedere, Bexley. We provide high-quality education and care for a range of additional educational needs and operate over two sites to deliver core subjects and additional curriculum such as BTEC qualifications, humanities, art and ICT.
We provide a structured environment centred on a meaningful and contextualised curriculum offer. Our clear purpose is to make an enduring difference to our learners’ lives, providing them with the knowledge, resilience and skills to enable them to have lasting employability and lifelong success.
We offer a range of core therapies to support learners with their learning and developmental needs, including 1:1 counselling sessions and Speech and Language Therapists.
To provide a holistic approach to supporting our young people in their quest to thrive, we offer additional activities such as after school clubs, school council, PAD training (boxing) with our trained staff, as well as 1:1 academic support for Key Stage 4 students. We strive to provide additional clubs according to learner interest and demand.
Our Enrichment Series, launched in September 2025, gives learners the chance to take their learning beyond the classroom every Friday afternoon. These weekly sessions are designed to complement the core academic curriculum, offering meaningful, hands-on experiences that build confidence, teamwork, and real-world skills. Learners take part in a wide range of activities, from sustainability projects and gym sessions to community work and extra-curricular trips, with at least one off-site visit every half term. The programme supports personal growth, wellbeing, and engagement, helping each learner discover new interests and strengths along the way.
Additional enrichment activities are also available during school holidays, such as the GCSE revision club. Please contact the school for more information.
We have embedded employability throughout our curriculum, within our Core Skills and Preparation For Adulthood sessions, timetabled throughout KS3 and KS4.
At the heart of our culture, we value the importance of building positive, trusting relationships with young people and in supporting and enabling them to make choices, informed by an understanding of the related consequences. We have specialised training in Trauma-informed practice and demonstrate this through a restorative approach to challenging behaviours.
We believe every experience is a learning experience and all staff maintain a non-judgemental approach to working with young people.
The curriculum embeds training and experiences, predominantly within our local community, thus building on their cultural capital.

Luke Collins – Principal and Deputy Designated Safeguarding Lead
Welcome to our community at Break Through School.
Break Through is a unique and caring school, providing education and social development opportunities for learners who have experienced challenges within traditional educational settings.
I am delighted to be Principal and share my vision for the future of our school. I have worked in education for the past 19 years, beginning my career as a PE teacher in Central London. Since then, I have held leadership roles across three large secondary academies before being drawn to specialist education.
Throughout my career, I have learned so much from our learners, families and my wonderful colleagues. At Break Through School, we are deeply committed to providing an inclusive, naturing, and happy environment where every learner receives tailored support to achieve their full potential and are celebrated.
My goal is to continue developing our wonderful school so that we can continue improving the learning experiences for our exceptional young learners. I truly trust in the transformative power of education and its ability to open doors, build confidence and facilitate social mobility. I believe that working in partnership with parents and the wider community is also essential in achieving this goal. Together, we can create a positive and inspiring learning experience for every learner.
I am honoured to lead such a fantastic school and look forward to working alongside our learners, families and staff, to grow and succeed together.
Community and Charity
The school fosters an ethos of charitable work, taking part in fundraising and awareness events, including Comic Relief, Mental Health Awareness and Cancer Research UK. We work with our local community where possible in offering life experiences, including using local facilities, for example, our food is provided by a local cafe, and we utilise the local church hall for indoor PE, training sessions and assemblies.
Break Through School embeds regular wellbeing events, each focusing on a different theme. One recent event centred on charity, with the theme Charity Starts at School. Staff and learners donated both new and pre-loved items, supporting not only our charitable goals but also our commitment to sustainability through the Let’s Go Zero – 2030! initiative.
