Break Through School Celebrates Black History Month with Culture and Community

This October, Break Through School in Belvedere marked Black History Month with a vibrant celebration of culture, history, and togetherness. Learners explored and celebrated the achievements of influential Black icons from the past and present, deepening their understanding of diversity and heritage.

As part of the celebrations, the school combined its regular Wellbeing Wednesday with a special cultural food day. Staff brought in a variety of dishes representing different cultures, and learners were encouraged to taste new flavours and share in the experience of celebrating global traditions.

School Principal Ruth Elliott said:

“Black History Month is such an important opportunity for our learners to recognise and celebrate the richness of different cultures and the incredible contributions of Black individuals throughout history. It was wonderful to see everyone coming together, learning, sharing, and enjoying food from around the world.”

The day was filled with curiosity, open-mindedness, and community spirit, and plenty of delicious food, making it a memorable event for both learners and staff alike.
