On 15th January 2026, Break Through School marked World Braille Day, providing learners with the opportunity to build understanding, confidence, and empathy. The day focused on how Braille enables independence and inclusion for people with visual impairments, allowing learners to connect this learning to their own experiences of overcoming challenges and celebrating difference.
Learners engaged in a variety of activities that promoted social-emotional development, encouraged respectful discussion, and emphasised accessibility. The sessions reinforced the school’s commitment to equality and representation, complementing SMSC education while helping learners feel part of a wider, diverse community.
Principal Ruth Elliott said:
“World Braille Day is an excellent opportunity for our learners at Break Through School to develop empathy, understanding, and respect for difference. Activities like these help students appreciate the importance of accessibility and inclusion, while building their confidence and social skills.”
The initiative highlights Break Through School’s dedication to providing meaningful, inclusive learning experiences that prepare learners for life beyond the classroom.
