Break Through School Celebrates Menโ€™s Mental Health Day with a Focus on Positive Male Role Models

On 19th November 2024, Break Through School, part of Melrose Education, proudly marked Menโ€™s Mental Health Day under this yearโ€™s theme: Positive Male Role Models. The day highlighted the invaluable contributions of the men within the school community, offering opportunities for celebration, connection, and meaningful discussion around mental health.

The school organised a range of activities to engage both staff and learners. Male staff members were invited to a special MENtal Health drop-in session, complete with freshly baked cakes and a gaming session to foster camaraderie. Discussions during the event centred on topics most relevant to menโ€™s mental health, providing a safe and open space for dialogue.

Learners played a vital role in the dayโ€™s events, decorating the school to create an uplifting atmosphere and participating in a dedicated lunch club where male staff and learners came together to discuss mental health challenges and celebrate positive role models.

To further honour the occasion, Melrose Central Office gifted vouchers to all male staff members, encouraging them to treat themselves and prioritise their wellbeing.

Principal Ruth Elliott shared her thoughts on the day:

“At Break Through School, we believe mental health is everyoneโ€™s responsibility. Menโ€™s Mental Health Day was a fantastic opportunity to highlight the importance of our positive male role models and create spaces where mental health conversations can thrive. By empowering our learners and staff, we continue to make mental health and wellbeing central to everything we do.”

Break Through Schoolโ€™s commitment to mental health extends year-round. Learners are encouraged to enrol in the schoolโ€™s Mental Health Level 1 course, facilitated through PSHE, which equips them with essential knowledge and tools to support themselves and others.

This celebration underscored Melrose Education and Break Throughโ€™s dedication to promoting mental health awareness and fostering a supportive community for all.
